In continuing to celebrate Gerald R. Ford’s 100th birthday, the Foundation hosted the Annual Dinner in conjunction with a Centennial Tribute in Grand Rapids, Michigan. On May 6th, 2013 at the Amway Grand Hotel, members of the Ford Family, Trustee Board Members, friends from Grand Rapids and around the country joined together in Gerald R. Ford’s hometown for this historic event. Brent Scowcroft was selected as the recipient of the 2013 Gerald R. Ford Medal for Distinguished Public Service for his years of dedication to America both as a military officer and advisor to numerous Presidents.
The medal was presented by Red Cavaney, President of the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Foundation, Carla A. Hills, Foundation Trustee and Susan Ford Bales, daughter of Gerald & Betty Ford. The Ford Family also presented Richard DeVos with a special gift from the family for his years of support to the Foundation and for his longtime friendship with the family.
The evening also featured a special guest panel with Steve Ford, Dick Cheney, Bob Schieffer and Ben Stein. The panel spoke on the legacy of Gerald R. Ford, their personal reflections on his Presidency and of the many memories they had of “Jerry”. The evening concluded with a performance by the United States Army Chorus that include several of President Ford’s favorite songs.
